Terminology That You Might Hear When You Buy A Used Car
Like everything else the world of used cars has its own terminology. You could find that you end up feeling a little bit confused if you don't know what is meant by these words. The following are some of the words that are commonly used when referring to used cars.
- You may have heard the term 'clocking' but don't know what it means; this actually refers to a scam where some conmen will turn back the odometer on a used car so that the mileage will look to be much lower than it is in reality. Do not ever buy a used car if you think it looks as though the odometer has been meddled with or changed at all.
- An 'ex-fleet' car is one which was previously owned by a business instead of an individual. Most businesses will replace their fleet every couple of years so you may pick up a great deal on one of these cars. The main problem with ex-fleet cars is that they tend to have a lot of miles on them; although they are normally in pristine condition.
- Having a 'full service history' means that all the required services were carried out when they should have been done. If a car has a full service history then you can usually assume that it is going to be in good condition.
- The vehicle identification number is also known as the VIN number. It is a good idea to check this number to see if the vehicle is stolen. Never buy a car if it looks like the VIN has been tampered with in anyway this is a sure sign that it has been stolen.
- A 'coupe' is a type of car that only comes with two doors and in most cases there will only be two seats in the car as well.
- Craigslist is a website where a lot of people now buy and sell used cars. This website is very popular in the UK now but it originally started in the US.
When you think it's time to look out for cars for sale, you are always better off trying to research your vehicles beforehand. Researching allows you to find the very best used cars for the category you are looking for. And when you finally finish your research, you could find yourself leaving the car delears with a splendid used vauxhall for sale or even a used volvo for sale.
