DIY: Set Up A Ceiling Fan By Yourself
Do you have room that might benefit from a ceiling fan? Setting up a ceiling fan is as straightforward as switching your current light fixture. Should you decide to get the fan on a cathedral ceiling, you will have to get an extension so that the fan wont be so high up. Usually they aren't made for a ceiling fan, so you will want to add more additional support. You can do this quite easily if you are able to get the light fixture from the attic.
All that's necessary to do, is nail a 2x4 inside the ceiling rafters, in order that it touches the top of the workbox. The moment the 2x4 is nicely anchored, prop the workbox to the 2x4. If you did it accurately, the weight of the fan should be well supported by the 2x4 wood and screws. If you don't have gain access to to the attic, you may have to deploy metal cross bracing via the hole in your ceiling. Performing this is far more of a challenge and may not be as safe as using a 2x4 but it is the most suitable you can do if you dont possess access to the attic.
When you have put the fan together according to the instructions, you are ready to deploy the fan to your light fixture. The tough part is linking the wiring while keeping the fan. The difficulty is based on the type of fan you get, whether it is a hanging frame or a fan that has a bracket with a J hook. The majority of fans, you will find a wall mount switch along with a chain to manage the speed of the fan. If you choose to also deploy a light kit with the fan, both can be regulated by either chain or wall switch.
Cabling the fan is as simple as connecting two black wires, two ground wires and two white wires. Now all you want to do is accomplish assembling the fan according to the instructions, by attaching the fan blades. After you connect the blades, the only thing left is to turn the breaker back on to find out if you did it right.
