Types Of Fuses Used In Modern Motor Vehicles
A fuse defends the electrical system against surges of power. Comprised of a metal strip or wire, it has the possibility to melt when excessive current flows, which interrupts the connected circuit. If the device detects overload, no further current will be applied in order to prevent any damage. Fuses limit threat to human life and property damage. Another type of fuse that is used in cars and other applications is the Cooper Bussman fuse.
The maximum current rating for circuits is established by wiring regulations. The wiring and electrical equipment for vehicles are protected by automotive fuses. Circuits are rated for no more than 24 volts direct current and also can be of other types with 42-volt electrical systems.
Blade fuses are usually used in cars. The fuses have two prongs and a body of plastic material. The prongs fit into fuse sockets. They are individually stamped with their ampere rating. Based on the physical dimensions they are divided as APX heavy-duty, ATC or ATO, regular APR, mini APM or ATM, low-profile mini or APS.
The APS fuse is in the "micro" category, which is smaller than the "mini" rating. Developed in 1975 and sometimes called standard fuses, regular type blades are for low-voltage use in motor vehicles. Mini fuses came about in the last decade of the 1900's. Blade type fuses get mounted on blocks, in-line holders or even clips. A Bussman fuse is often used in high voltage and high current applications.
Highly regarded manufacturers of automotive fuses include ATS or Bosch making torpedo fuses. They tend to be used in mainly older automobiles, their dimension is around 6x25 which includes conical ends. The color coding will be the same as the current DIN (72581/1) with the fuse at 6x25mm with Bosch.
1 inch Lucas-type fuses are utilized in old or assembled automobiles, they also come in 1.25 inch sizes with conical ends. Rated current utilizes the same color coding system. Lucas types have three ratings - continuous current they are designed to carry, instantaneous current at which they will go off and continuous current at which they will also melt.
Glass cartridges are used by the electrical systems in modern vehicles which has current ratings between 4 and 30 amperes and is rated to be 32 volts. These are the exact version of standard J554 dimensions and characteristics. All of them are 1/4 inch diameter and length varies according to their ratings. The conversion table for the Amp to inch would be 5/8 inch for 4 Amp, 1 1/4 inches for 20 Amp and 1 7/16 inches for 30 amp.
For currents above 40 amperes use a Limiter fuse with metal strips on a lock plate. These appear primarily in electric vehicles like fork lifts. Most instances of blown fuses in vehicles doesn't indicate a major problem, but if it is happening frequently it could signal an electrical system problem. This does signify you need to check out vehicle maintenance.

To anyone out there who has a radio control mini forklift, I'd really like to know how much weight it can lift without struggling or toppling. I don't mind what measurements you use, I'd just like a conclusive answer.
