Has anyone ever REPAIRED the Peugeot 205 lower ball joint (fusee pen) instead of replacing it?
The ball joint sits in a cast iron arm. YES, I have replaced the rubber bushings on the torsion bar and the inner pivot bushings. But is it possible to drill out... the lower ball joint and insert a replacement??
What do they do in the poorer african nations?
Pugtop... it is not the ball joint on the track rod that I am talking about. There are no rubber boots on the LOWER suspension arm.
I don't have a photo readyto show you, but it is a heavy iron arm about 15'' in a gentle S curve.
A new track rod end is only 12 euro, but a Lower suspension arm with ball joint is 80 euro.
Good question! As far as I know, nobody ever changes the ball joint on a 205 wishbone/track control arm, because, they are not available seperately. We think there are some similar joints available, but so far, i've not found any. The joint is pressed in and would most likely need a press to remove and refit. If someone ever finds a source of these balljoints, I would definately buy a press, as the arms are just junk, and worth nothing. As you say, many people replace the rubber bushes and even the ball joint rubber boots are just about available.... I assume the 'poorer African nations' must just ignore the knocking joints, assuming there are 205s left over there.
