What happens if GM goes bankrupt?
If GM does does get the $12 billion they need, what would happen? What would happen to some of America's most-loved GM-owned cars (Corvette, Cadillac, etc.)?
It is almost a certainty that the U.S. government will provide a bailout for General Motors. Most Congressmen, Republican and Democrat, agree that some financial assistance should be offered GM. The disagreement currently is mainly under what conditions and circumstances should a bailout be made. Here's part of what is being discussed:
1. Should the financial assistance be offered as part of a bankruptcy reorganization or not? Many Republicans prefer the former, as it would permit GM to shed (a) health care premiums for retired employees, (b) several of its vehicle lines (not Chevrolet), (c) a number of its existing factories, and (d) about 3/4 of its dealerships. Many Democrats prefer to provide the financial aid outside of a bankruptcy reorganization, as a goodly amount of the party's political support comes from labor unions. The Republican position seems more sound, as it permits GM to downsize to match its current market share, without suffering inordinate expenses in doing so.
2. How senior should the debt to the U.S. government be? Both Republicans and Democrats agree that the loan from the U.S. government should have seniority over all existing indebtedness. If not all existing secured creditors agree to this, then there would be no choice for GM but to file a banktruptcy reorganization, where the judge would have nearly free reign to revamp seniority.
3. How many warrants should the government receive for granting the loan, and at what price should they be exercisable? AutoOnInfo.net makes a proposal on this; see the last link below.
GM has historically lost one percentage point of U.S. market share per year, and there is no reason to believe that once this crisis passes, it will lose U.S. market share more rapidly than 2 percentage points per year. GM should be able to manage such a gradual descent without resorting to another bailout or reorganization. Such provides a strong argument for granting the bailout.
Chevy releases COPO Camaro concept drag racing featurette (Autoblog)

It seems you can't offer a pony car these days without also making available a
full race-spec drag racing version. Ford was first with its Cobrajet, then
came Dodge with the Mopar Challenger Drag Pak, and soon we'll have an offering
from Chevy.
That car will be based on the COPO Camaro Concept, which debuted last month at
the SEMA Show in Las Vegas and whose name, COPO, harkens back to a time when
sly dealers could order a Corvette-powered Camaro from the factory without the
big wigs knowing. But unlike most concept cars, the COPO Camaro Concept is a
rolling prototype for the production version that's to follow.
As such, engineers from General Motors have been working on the car's
development for over three years, and today they released a video featurette
showing the concept's first run out in the real world. According to the video,
engineers ran the car all day long with a number of engine set ups and it "met
or exceeded" all expectations.
