Are old metal (alu) brake handlers and shifters (old looking handlebar) okay still ?
Are old metal (alu) brake handlers and shifters (old looking handlebar) okay still ?I visited some shop and this is what he had is it better , worse or just bad looking ? I am speaking abt a road bike handlebar

Aluminum is a very durable material for handle bars and such. Better than Carbon! It takes a lot for aluminum to fail, if you have an accident, it will dent or bend ... that is your sign to replace it. Many of the other materials just fail... they break and can cause great injuries!
And the gears you wrote me about will be just fine! Make sure the bike shop you get the bike from services and carries spare parts if repairs / replacements are needed.
